ABOUT BETTY
Hey, Hey!! My name is Betty Morris and I am a Winchester, Kentucky native, though I lived in Powell County for many, many years, too! So yes, I have spent A LOT of time in the Red River Gorge.
Aside from being a photographer + storyteller + creative, I'm also a mama to one sweet little girl named Margo, a studio owner, interior + graphic designer, DIYer, avid traveler, and well, an all around badass. When I manage to find time to myself, I really enjoy exploring new places, thrifting, decorating or planning for something, camping or crafting, anything art related, checking out cool coffee shops or breweries, car shows, festivals, listening to inspirational or self healing podcasts, or watching a good movie or show! I graduated from Morehead State University in 2016 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts. I spent the last two years of my college career working on a black and white film project, solely based on Fine Art Nude Artwork. Focused on accepting yourself and loving the skin you're in. In 2014, I studied abroad in Berlin Germany, studying German Language and Studio Art, and in 2016 I studied abroad in Paris France, studying the History of Photography in Paris and Digital Photography. Both times there, I spent time backpacking solo around Europe after my courses were complete. The first two years after college, I worked as a Marketing Coordinator for six worldwide industrial companies in Louisville, Kentucky; doing marketing, graphic design, photo + video work, served on the side, all while also continuing to build my photography business up in a new city. In 2018, I found out I was pregnant and so I decided to leave office job to run Betty Lea Photography full time and work from home with my daughter. Betty Lea Photography has been going strong for almost half a decade now, so wild to think about. I have had the pleasure of photographing some of the most amazing people, and had the opportunity to travel to some incredible places around the world just because of photography. I have photographed over 60 weddings, hundreds + hundreds, if not thousands, of families, seniors, brands/products, boudoir sessions, maternity, newborn, etc. since I began. I have mentored other photographers and have continued to invest into my company and my own education. I am very passionate about what I do and I always want to grow and be better than I was the day before. Maybe that's just the Leo in me! Boudoir, Intimate Couple's Sessions, Creative / Editorial Work, Branding + Marketing Sessions, and Educating others, is where my heart certainly is though. I adore weddings, but as of 2023, I am only accepting a handful a year. If you know me personally you know that I am an open book, VERY down to earth, and always trying to help other's see their own greatness + beauty! Like many of us, I have been through a lot in my life and have been left with quite a bit of trauma. Trauma that I have worked very hard on healing for years. But, I know that my trauma, and my story, have a purpose to serve. And with it I hope to allow others to feel comfortable enough to open up to me, to know that they aren't alone, and that I am always a safe space. - My new studio, LOXX & LUMENS STUDIOS, located on Main Street in Winchester, KY, is set to open in February 2023! This is something I have been working on since summer 2022 and I am so excited to get it open! More details on that coming soon! |
